Promotional merchandise, items, products, gifts and swag are all used to refer to pieces or merchandise that are used as part of communication and marketing programs. Typically business promotional product is branded. There are an assortment of products that may be employed and they are often given to promote a company, brand, corporate image or event.

Most promotional products are used to promote. For this reason, they usually include the name of an event or company, or a logo or slogan. Many businesses choose items that are used universally and often on a daily basis. An example of this would be coffee mugs. A lot of people drink from mugs on a regular basis and would therefore be constantly reminded of what is being promoted.

There are many ways individuals can get these items. Sometimes they are sold by the company store or at special events. They might also be given away for free. This is typically true at conferences, trade shows and other big gatherings in which guerrilla marketing techniques may be employed. Distributors typically sell these items in bulk quantities. Typically they are small and do not cost a lot per unit. Still, there are some quality products that are employed for this purpose. For instance, the electronics, perfumes, colognes and other valuables that are given to celebrities and other public figures at major events. These have the same purpose of promoting a product. The goal is to have the celebrity be seen with the product or endorse it at some point.

Overall, the objective of all such promo merchandise is brand awareness. Other purposes for these items: building traffic at trade shows, dealer and distributor programs, safety education, incentive programs, generating new customers, non-profit organizations, employee service awards, and marketing research. Schools, charities and other non-commercial entities often use these to raise funds for campaigns or bring awareness to certain causes.

These items that are used will vary based on the objective, company, target audience and other such factors. There are even individuals who collect these promotional items as a hobby. Some products may not be made for daily use, but the ones frequently used are beneficial because they serve as a constant reminder.

The business promotional product is a useful tool when it comes to marketing and creating brand awareness. There are numerous items that can be used for this purpose, most of which are branded with the logo, name, symbol or some other marker of what is being promoted. Numerous distributors sell bulk quantities at affordable prices. Such products are available through many different avenues.
