Make More Money By Staying In Touch - Email Marketing Essentials

By Bob Steele

You need a list and you know it. In fact, it's possible that you already have a list. There's a good chance you've already seen a nice return from it. You may have seen a drop in that success, though. Try not to panic! Success in email marketing is intermittent and that's something no one will admit to. Certain products and endeavors will have a better success rate than others. Your first reaction, when sales are not so hot, might be to try out as many shiny, new techniques as you can because you've been "assured" you'll make a fortune. Steel yourself against this temptation! The best approach is to strip it down to basics when sales are slowing down and we'll talk about a few of those right here in this article.

Segmentation will help you build your list quickly. If you have an autoresponder, the best way to segment your list is by moving customers from the "prospect" list to the "buyer" list automatically. These lists should have different auto responders and follow up messages. When a customer purchases a product or service from you, don't sell them the same thing over and over. Doing this will cause them to unsubscribe. What you need to do is take them for purchasing, and then encourage them to stay in contact. The best way to do this is by segmenting your list. Most subscription-based autoresponders have this option.

Always remember that the only email address you are going to get, at least in the beginning, is the address that someone thinks you should have. Many people sign up for opt-in lists with a special email address that they've created just for that purpose. What you have to do is impress them with your messages so that they'll want to use their "real" address to sign up. This is frustrating-you probably want all sorts of primary email addresses on your list but your list server won't know the difference.

The only email you'll get when people sign up is the one they are comfortable giving you. Many people sign up for opt-in lists with a special email address that they've created just for that purpose. What you have to do is impress them with your messages so that they'll want to use their "real" address to sign up. You may find it frustrating because you want a list full of principal addresses but your server won't be able to differentiate.

There's less chance of something like someone stealing your list to sell it happening. Customer service is important everywhere and any list service provider worth your business and subscription fee is going to offer it in a stellar fashion. Walk away if they aren't giving you what you should get.

Don't let yourself be conned by empty promises or so-called super techniques. Keep applying what worked for you before. You can't go wrong with the basics.
