Advertising Options Through Cheap Or Free Classifieds

By Dorothy Groves

There are now many options for affordable, and sometimes even free classifieds which can be utilized to advertise small businesses. A variety of web sites exist which allows the public to post anything from a business ad to a yard sale. These options allow one to advertise to a specific area, but one also has the option of exposing their business on a much wider scale as well.

Another great option for advertising is through social networking web sites where they can advertise to friends and family. Not only can this get their business name to a wide audience, but friends of friends can access their information when posts are made to the pages of their friends and family. This is automatic word-of-mouth type of advertising which can effectively bring customers from a large area.

Of course, there is still the good old fashioned phone book available as well. Any household which has a traditional land-line receives these books, and many of them do use them when searching for goods or services. Creating a catchy and attractive ad in the phone book can also link people to their business web-site, or other social networking contacts, and they can receive more information about the business from there.

There are a variety of web sites available where average people can post their own commercials. These video sharing sites have tag lines where anyone doing a web search can be linked to their commercial, and can view all the information about the business. This creates a sense of being more personal, as potential customers can actually see the people they are about to do business with.

These video commercials can also be linked to a web site or social networking site, again giving the public the opportunity to see who owns the business. Many people prefer spending their money with small businesses anyway, and being able to have a relationship with the company promotes sales. This is something large corporations will never be able to accomplish, as CEOs and other company executives rarely deal with the public.

The Internet is, as always, a great leveler of the playing field. Whether the company is large or small, the public is able to access the information equally, and this can be done without the huge expense of creating a commercial for television. In fact, when advertising to a smaller community, television commercials are generally not that effective because most people watch cable networks.

Mass mailings and fliers are still an effective means of advertising to a smaller area. Grocery stores everywhere still have bulletin boards out front where a cleverly designed flier can attract plenty of attention, and increase traffic into their business. One can pay a print shop to do it, but the average household printer will work just as well, and generally costs much less.

Free classifieds, video sites, and inexpensive mailings are just a few ideas for small business owners to reach their advertising goals. The idea is to get traffic to a web site, which results in traffic to the physical location if there is one. No one has to spend large sums of money to get a new business started.
